Frequently Asked Questions of a Southern Patriot
Why an independent Dixie?
The Dixie in which we live, work, play and worship today has no future outside of Independence. The Empire has put us on notice that our jobs, ability to raise a family, be entertained and worship Almighty God must be sacrificed to the whims of the central government. Simply put, even if the American Dream was still possible, it will not be allowed.
Removed from the Empire our traditions such as Sunday worship, hunting, fishing, firearm ownership, sporting events and others will no longer be a political issue- just the enjoyment of our beautiful land and people.

What would an Independent South Look Like?
Have you ever had a longing to live in a place where community has taken the place of the Hollywood, sports/celebrity drivel of national "culture"? Where your friends down the street, your local church, fundraisers for neighbors in need and involvement in local politics have taken the place of the stale, choreographed events and news stories of the day? Imagine looking at your paycheck at the end of this hard work week and seeing an extra 15-20% in your check to buy your children the things they love, to help a relative make ends meet, to tithe to the Church to do good works in the community. Free-Dixie envisions this and so much more for our people- the people of the South from Virginia to Texas.

Isn't secession treason?
The States that formed the United States of American were independent BECAUSE they seceded(withdrew consent to be governed) from the British Empire in 1776. By the logic of American nationalists, George Washington was a traitor and Benedict Arnold a Patriot. These early Americans withdrew their consent to be Governed by the British because they believed that a people had a right to self government, and the British had abused that right-much the way "our" Government abuses that right today in ignoring the Constitution and taking sovereignty away from the People of the States.
It is worth noting that from the time the War for Southern Independence ended in 1865 to the General Amnesty in 1869, not one Confederate official was tried for treason. Even Confederate President Jefferson Davis, who was fanatically hated by then-U.S. President Andrew Johnson, ultimately walked away without trial. The Feds knew that a fair trial would find Davis and others not guilty and give the Northern cause a black eye from which it would never recover.

What would happen to my Social Security and Medicare?
Contrary to popular belief, it is entirely possible to live outside of the United States and continue to receive Social Security and Medicare benefits. In fact, millions of Americans are doing so right now under totalization agreements reached with other nations. One of the first priorities of a Free Dixie would be securing totalization agreements between the United States and the Independent States of a Free Dixie to ensure that those Southerners who spent their lives paying into Social Security and are now in or nearing retirement will receive their benefits.
In the long term, we at Dixie Watchman advocate a return to the State "old age pension" system, whereby workers voluntarily pay into their pension/health accounts-which unlike the current insolvent system, will be by Constitutional law off limits from "borrowing" against it by reckless and irresponsible politicians. Any remaining deficit will be paid by a small tariff on imports into a Free Dixie.

I fought for my country overseas, risking my life for the United States and it's flag. Isn't secession is an insult to my sacrifices?
We at Dixie Watchman have a deep sense of gratitude to you for your service to the United States- so deep in fact, that it pains us to see your sacrifices tarnished and wasted by a corrupt, godless government.
We know as do you, that you did not risk your life for your children to be taught to hate themselves because of their race, question their gender and sexuality at an age where they only have a vague concept of it, live in a world where laws and public safety are enforced only as the mob allows, and have no voice in a government that claims to be "of the people".
We at Dixie Watchman are committed to preserving the America that YOU fought to preserve- God, self-government, Constitutional republican Government, as well as the culture that gave birth to these beliefs you held dear enough to risk life and limb for.

Isn't this just white nationalism?
One of the first questions a Southerner will usually ask is "where are you from"? This is not from a desire to persecute an outsider, but is to get familiar with you- to attach a sense of place, a landmark or even a friend/relative to you. Southerners more than any other American people have a strong attachment to their community. As such, Free-Dixie seeks all good Southerners who are interested in bettering their community and society.
Unlike Abraham Lincoln and much of the Abolitionist movement who viewed the black population of the South as a foreign, hostile element to be removed by colonization, black Southerners have always and will continue to be a part of the South.

There's no such thing as the Southern people. If it weren't for slavery/segregation/racism, wouldn't we be like the rest of the United States?
In truth, the North and South were never "one people" in any meaningful sense.
Imagine having a next door neighbor who made your life miserable. You tried to reason with them, ignore them but they finally made you so miserable you moved as far away from them as possible. You set up your new home in a place you like and get your new life established. Then imagine one morning you wake up and see a UHAUL van at the house next door-and it's guess who?- the same neighbor. This is basically what happened to the first Southerners.
The early Southern settlers were Cavaliers from the Celtic portions of the English realm, who fled the tyrannical reign of Cromwell and the Puritans, where their land, money and right of worship had been taken from them. They settled in Virginia because it offered freedom and distance from the Puritans in New England, who increased after the overthrow of the Puritans in England. While the Cavaliers were carving out a new frontier in the South, the Puritans in New England were hunting witches and killing Indians.
These early political, cultural and religious differences were what drove these people to settle different sections of the continent-soil and climate did the rest, along with attracting to the South the Anglo-Norman and English Barbadian settlers who engaged in large scale agriculture, just as they had done in the old Country

Do you want another Civil War?
Of course not. The idea that secession is a violent act is a myth. The former Soviet Republics seceded from the Soviet Union in 1991 with none of the terror and violence inflicted on the South when they seceded in 1861. Norway seceded from Denmark, Czechoslovakia split all with no bloodshed involved.
While it is true that the Northern States waged a war of terror and atrocities against the civilian population of the South in the 19th Century, this does not invalidate our right to self-government, nor does it mean we should continue to give fearful consent to a Government hostile to our people, religion, culture and God given rights.

What would civil rights look like in an independent South?
The legal foundation of a Free Dixie would rest on equality before the law for young and old, rich and poor, white or black. This is the only way to secure the harmonious, free society that we at Free-Dixie seek.
Citizenship in a Free Dixie would be offered to all residents of the Confederate States who will swear allegiance to their State and to the new Southern Government.

The South has changed so much since the War. Isn't Southern Independence an outdated idea, just a longing for the Old Confederacy?
While we cannot live in 1861, we can learn from it. Self-government never truly goes out of style, especially when seeking refuge from a shadow government run by a hostile majority. As the recent secession movements in Ukraine, Catalonia, and the European Union have shown us, secession and decentralization may in fact be the wave of the future. While we will always pay tribute to the South that made us who we are, we envision a modern South ready to show the world what small government and self-government are capable of.

How would we go about Secession?
If you live in one of the thirteen Confederate States, you already have! Your State, by a Convention of the People- the true power in American Government- passed an Ordinance of Secession in the year 1860-61, invoking its Sovereign right to secede. This Ordinance was repealed only by legislators at gunpoint-the equivalent of stopping a divorce by pulling a gun on one of the parties in Court. Agreements made under such hostile conditions are generally considered null and void in the legal world. The U.S. military was required to give this agreement some sort of dignity.
No current State legislature will acknowledge this historical truth. Most politicians at the State level are too neck deep in the Swamp to pull themselves out. The Government that denies our rights is where their bread is buttered.
We at Dixie Watchman propose in true decentralist spirit, to work at the local level: where the people have the most contact with their officials and where day to day decisions are made.
